What to Wear to the Ballet

Ballet Memphis’ beautiful production of Prokofiev’s Cinderella is this weekend! The grand Orpheum Theatre is the venue for this event. It’s the perfect occasion to dress up and have fun. Go here to get tickets to performances on Saturday or Sunday. Come to Sachi this weekend to get styled – we have a couple suggestions below!

We love the idea of wearing a full tulle skirt to the ballet. You will feel like a princess in this gauzy gown from Mimi and Maggie. And as Cindy could tell you, never underestimate the power of a good pair of shoes. We suggest this sparkly silver heel from Nina as the perfect complement.

Of course, we have other options as well, such as this pearl-studded piece from Biscotti. The blue underlay evokes the “classic”/animated image of Cinderella, while the Yosi Samra flats are both adorable and easy to wear.

What to Wear Where: Mama Mia

Today is opening night for the hit musical “Mama Mia!” at the Orpheum. If you can’t make it tonight, you have four more opportunities this weekend! Go here for showtimes and tickets. Want to know what to wear? We’ve got you covered with some outfit suggestions.

First up: Evening performances

Un Deux Trois dress and accessories for the theatre

When you attend a theatre performance in the evening, the dress code is fancier. Opening nights usually have the most dressed-up attendees, who may sport evening wear such as long gowns and tuxedos. A typical evening performance does not get quite that fancy. We’ve selected this hot pink dress from Un Deux Trois, but toned it down with accessories. A fun wristlet from Vera Bradley holds your essentials: ticket, lip gloss, tissues, money for snacks, and a silenced cell phone. The print and quilted cloth help to keep things casual, while the metal accents keep it from looking misplaced. Wear some sparkle, but keep it minimal. We’ve chosen these small earrings from Baked Beads. The Steve Madden wedges may have shiny jewels and shimmery fabric on top, but the rope-wrapped outsole keeps them more relaxed.

Next up: Matinee (Afternoon) Perfomances

Matinee performances are typically attended by more families and have a much more relaxed dress code. Jeans and capris are great, as long as you wear a nice top. Athletic shorts are out, but fun leggings and a cute tunic are in. The outfit from this post is a great example. You could even do a cute pair of board shorts and leather sandals in place of the jeans and wedges. Make sure to keep reading our blog – the next time a show’s on our event schedule, we’ll have a fun and easy guideline to putting together outfits for the theater.
